Our Family Practice physicians are specifically trained to treat a variety of acute and chronic illnesses. They also place an emphasis on health maintenance and disease prevention.
Dr. Trager specializes in Internal Medicine. This allows him to manage complex medical diseases as well as acute illnesses. As an Infectious Disease specialist, Dr. Trager treats patients with complicated infections, as well as providing required immunizations and counseling for patients traveling out of the country.
Our general surgeons are specially trained to treat benign and malignant disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, diseases of the breast, skin and soft tissue, as well as surgical management of weight loss. Our surgeons also specialize in endoscopic and laparoscopic surgical procedures.
Dr. Gunderson attended the University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana for her undergraduate degree, and received her MD from Southern Illinois University. She completed her internship and general surgery residency at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Gunderson joined Family Medical Group in July of 1985. She is a board certified general surgeon, a Fellow of the American Board of Surgeons, as well a being a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Gunderson has privileges at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center. Dr. Gunderson is a general surgeon; however she specializes in breast surgery.
“Dr. Peter” Mihalakakos attended the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1988. He received his MD from the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in 1992. Dr. Peter completed his general surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center in 1997. He is a board certified general surgeon, Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Peter joined Family Medical Group in July of 1997. He is the current Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center. Dr. Peter is a general surgeon specializing in advanced laparoscopic surgery and bariatric (weight loss) surgery.
Dr. Winkleman graduated from Indiana University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2003. Dr. Winkleman performed his general surgery residency at The Ohio State University Medical Center and was awarded Resident of the Year in 2008. He then completed a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Dr. Winkleman joined Family Medical Group in August of 2009. He is Board Certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Winkleman specializes in advanced laparoscopic and bariatric (weight loss) surgery.
Dr. Waszak attended University of Illinois in Chicago for his undergraduate degree and received his MD at Rush Medical College in Chicago. During his internship at Resurrection, he received the “Intern of the Year” award. He completed his Family Practice residency at Resurrection Hospital. He joined Family Medical Group in July of 1988. Dr. Waszak is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice.
Dr. Kravets attended the Vinnitsa Medical Institute in Vinnitsa, Ukraine where he received his combined undergraduate and MD. He completed his Family Practice residency at the University of IL Ravenswood Hospital Medical Center in June of 1997. Dr. Kravets is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice. He joined Family Medical Group in July of 1997.
Dr. Shively attended Lewis University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology. She attended Chicago Osteopathic Medical School and graduated with her Doctor of Osteopathy in 1993. She completed her internship and residency in Family Practice at the Chicago Osteopathic Hospitals and Medical Centers in Chicago. Dr. Shively is Board Certified in Family Practice and a member of the American Osteopathic Association. She joined Family Medical Group in May 1999.
Dr. Trager attended the University of Illinois where he earned his undergraduate degree in Biology with High Honors and Distinction. He attended the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine in Chicago and graduated with a medical degree with honors. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine as well as his fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago. He is board certified by the National Board of Examiners, American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Infectious Diseases. He is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America as well as a fellow with the American College of Physicians. Dr. Trager has been practicing medicine in Joliet since 1980, and joined Family Medical Group in February of 2003.
